FAQ

What is a hackathon?

Hackathons are innovative collaborative events comprising small teams of experts with diverse skill sets working together to solve defined challenge(s). They were initially started by the technology industry in the late 1990s and later became catch names for many other industries/sectors. The idea of a hackathon, or in our case Transformathon, is to build a product starting from scratch, and finish with a working prototype under a very short time frame. Through friendly competition, diverse groups are keen to collaborate in order to develop potential solutions a given challenge.

What is the goal of the hackathon?

Hackathons (speed innovation events) are great neutral platforms to quickly generate fresh ideas, make new connections and test new concepts. As hackathons produce proof of concept and/or prototypes ready solutions, progress can be quickly generated.

Transformathon’s three main goals are:
1. Develop solutions that are relevant in the industry today, to help leverage industry to reach their climate goals.
2. Stimulate an environment that can help bring successful solutions to the right outlets to get them to the market quickly.
3. To create a fun, open, and engaging ecosystem that embraces new ideas and solutions for the Energy Industry. A place where professionals, experts, and students can come to support the industry, and a safe neutral zone for R&D teams to hack-out, expand their minds, and see new opportunities without having to worry about failure or affecting a company’s bottom line.

We know it takes longer than a weekend to build great solutions, but this is ample time to form teams of good people and begin creating great solutions!

How do I form or join a team?

We hope teams at the hackathon will form around problems expressed by key industry challenges, from participating Transformathon professionals, or the provided hack categories. We do encourage participants to start forming teams with diverse skill sets before the event.
